Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is needed to access counselling at Eagle Mountain Counselling. A referral for DBT skills group is welcomed though not necessary. Your clinician will meet you and assess whether DBT is the best fit to meet your goals.

How long does counselling take?

This depends on what you want to achieve. Most clients require 8-12 sessions to create lasting change in their lives. It also depends on the concerns that you are dealing with, your commitment to change, finances and many other factors. During the initial session your counsellor will discuss a plan that best fits with your personal goals.

Will my extended health program cover costs?

Counselling is often covered under your extended health benefits plan. Contact your provider to determine your annual maximum. Most plans range between $500-$1000. Eagle Mountain Counselling does not direct bill. You will pay for your session at the start of each session and your counsellor will email you an invoice to submit to your health provider for reimbursement.  Note that some plans specify that coverage for therapy sessions is only for a psychologist or psychiatrist, many specify coverage for therapy sessions with a registered clinical counsellor. Other plans such as Great West Life also include therapy sessions with a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Check with your provider for details.

How to make a payment?

Payment can be made at the beginning of each session by e-transfer.
